AUSTRALIAN SAVE THE CHILDREN
Save the Children has been fighting for children’s rights way back since 1919. Save the Children is the world’s largest independent child rights development organization, which is making a difference to children’s lives in more than one hundred countries. From giving out emergency relief to long-term development projects, Save the Children secures a child’s right to health, education and protection. Save the Children Australia manages and implements programs in Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. Save the Children also support’s development programs through their global network in selected countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.In May 1919, Eglantyne Jebb founded the organization called Save the Children. Ninety years later, Save the Children has grown to become the world’s largest independent child rights development organization, making a difference to children’s lives in over 100 countries. Nearly 12 per cent of children living in Australia fall below the poverty line. Despite Australia’s wealth and high standards of living, many children struggle to reach even their potential because they don’t have access to education, healthcare and protection services.
Founded in Australia in 1919, the organization Save the Children has developed programs for Australian children since the 1950’s. The organization’s programs for education, health and wellbeing, and protection aim to brighten the outlook for many Australian children. The Mobile Playbus Program is a program which offers isolated and economically disadvantaged families access to playgroups, games and toy libraries. The program operates in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory. Save the Children’s Early Learning Centres operate in Nowa Nowa and Mooroopna in Victoria. The centres were established more than 40 years ago and provide accessible preschool education for local children who would otherwise miss out. ‘It Takes a Village…’ Multicultural Early Learning Program provides early childhood development activities and support to newly arrived refugee families and children in Perth.
Save the Children’s health, nutrition and life skills programs in Victoria and South Australia supply breakfast and snacks to children who otherwise go hungry. They also teach them practical skills in preparing and cooking healthy meals. The program highlights the links between nutrition and children’s development. The Allied Health Program in Bourke, New South Wales, is an early intervention program that helps communities deliver appropriate health services for children.
Save the Children is a worldwide society that is helping in bringing up children who have nobody to look after them.
