WSPA
For the last 25 years, WSPA has been aiming to promote the concept of animal welfare around Australia where there are few or no measures to protect animals. The WSPA has campaigned politically to influence the government and the people who make decisions to think about animal welfare.WSPA has been able to set up numerous animal welfare groups due to generous donations from supporters. It has enabled the local community to have a key involvement in the improvement of the lives of animals. People at WSPA understand that human ignorance is a key factor for the cruelty dealt out to animals and thus WSPA’s educational programs make an impact and change people’s attitude towards animals. The rescue teams of WSPA provide help to animals tat have been abandoned, neglected or caught in natural or man made disasters world wide. The WSPA focuses on four priority animal welfare areas. The first is Companion animals. It is about responsible pet management, proper stray management and stopping cruelty. The second is commercial exploitation of wildlife. This is about the intensive farming, cruel management and killing of animals for profits. The third is about farm animals who serve as long distance transports. The fourth is about providing immediate relief to animals that have been caught in disasters.
The WSPA wants to build up a united global animal welfare movement. The 25 year path towards achieving our goal has taken WSPA to the farthest flung reaches of the planet. This has resulted in our presence in over 70% of the worlds countries to date. With consultative status at both the United Nations and the Council of Europe, WSPA is the worlds largest federation of animal welfare societies. The WSPA is proud to be part of a growing network with over 1000 member organisations in more than 150 countries; this means that WSPA can bring together animal welfarists throughout the world to challenge global issues.WSPA has 13 offices and hundreds of thousands of supporters worldwide.
The ethical basis for WSPA’s policies is that it looks beyond the conservation of a species to the welfare of individual animals, as every animal has an intrinsic value and should be respected and protected. The work done by WSPA has not only been good for the animals in Australia but indeed it has affected animals all over the world. The WSPA ha many partner agencies with whom it works in providing relief to animals all around the world.
